I loved this piece. I also loved my little portable typewriter all through university – endless hours hacking away on essays which were always humanly imperfect. Thanks for reminding me of the spatial qualities of writing, and how that impacts on our words. Julie

This is really excellent work on a writer I have been circling for some time: circling as in marking out for further attention, and circling as in going round but not engaging with.
Just looking for a way in? Time, mostly. But this article has certainly fired me.

Thanks for this summary David, and also for your contribution to the Art Writing event. I was in the audience, and found the seminar to be refreshing: Irish criticism need not be doomed after all!
I just learned of this exhibition in Belfast, which may be of interest. (The 2nd edition of Allotrope will be launched on the opening night).
